BALLOON RELEASE

What is a Balloon Release?

A balloon release is a ceremonial event in which a number of helium filled balloons are released into the sky.

Balloons can be released to mark many occasions, from balloon races, graduations and celebrations to gender reveals or sentimental and sensitive gatherings.

The Facts about responsible balloon releasing

What happens when a balloon is released?

On release a balloon will float up to a height of approximately 5 miles and then it becomes brittle and shatters into minuscule pieces, falling back to earth at a rate of circa 1 piece every 5 square miles.

  • Only 100% biodegradable natural rubber latex balloons can be used in a Balloon Release. Latex is an organic product and degrades naturally in the environment, at about the same rate as an Oak Leaf.

  • The maximum size of the balloons released is 12"

  • No ribbons or strings can be attached to the balloons, as they pose as potentially harmful to the environment.

  • In the event of a Balloon Race-any labels should be made of recycled paper and attached to the balloon via the knot.

STRICTLY No Foil or Bubble balloons to be released.

 Foil Balloons

Made from metal coated plastic and so do not biodegrade.

Because foils balloons have a a metal coating, they will conduct electricity and therefore present a threat to life and electrical supplies if released.

 Bubble balloons

Made from a stretchy plastic that does not biodegrade.

Bubble balloons require a much higher pressure of helium to inflate, therefore they will reach much higher altitudes if released and could become a hazard to aircraft.
